ROG'S VIEWPOINT

While attending her sister's wedding in Rome, the ambitious but unlucky-in-love Beth (Kristen Bell) defiantly steals some magic coins from a reputed fountain of love. Upon returning to New York, she is passionately pursued by the men who belong to those coins. Also chasing Beth after meeting her at the wedding is handsome reporter Nick (Josh Duhamel). Will true love conquer all? "When In Rome" is lightweight romantic fluff that's sure to have more of a female following than male. Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel are convincing in the lead roles. Duhamel actually displays a flair for physical comedy. But comedy seems to be new territory for director Mark Steven Johnson, who is better known for films like "Ghost Rider" and "Daredevil". The band of suitors includes Danny DeVito as a sausage magnate, Will Arnett as a painter, Dax Shepard as a self-absorbed model and Jon Heder playing a street magician. With all these comedians around, there should have been more laughs. Appearing in almost-cameos are Don Johnson and Peggy Lipton as Beth's divorced parents, while Anjelica Huston grimaces and growls as the museum boss where Beth is an up-and-coming curator. Picturesque scenes of Rome and New York add a travelogue touch to the movie. Not to be confused with the classic "Three Coins In The Fountain", "When In Rome" comes up a few coins short.
