TRIVIA: Bruce Willis made his first big screen appearance in what 1980 movie? ROG'S VIEWPOINT ![]() ![]()
(3 CAMS) RATED PG-13In a futuristic society where humans live in isolation and interact through surrogate robots, FBI agent Tom Greer (Bruce Willis) must venture out into the real world when his robot is destroyed. Investigating the murder of a human and surrogate, Greer and his partner Agent Peters (Radha Mitchell) uncover a deadly new weapon and a conspiracy. Based on a graphic novel, "Surrogates" is an enjoyable, fast-paced popcorn thriller with no time to think about the plot holes. Director Jonathan Mostow ("Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines") maintains a mostly frenetic pace while getting fine performances out of Bruce Willis and the supporting cast. James Cromwell stands out as surrogate inventor Canter, whose son's murder is the catalyst to the investigation. Ving Rhames is chilling as The Prophet, who leads a revolt against the robots. While Radha Mitchell handles the action, Rosamund Pike covers the few tender scenes as Greer's wife Maggie, living her life through a surrogate after a tragic family accident. The tragedy adds some depth to Willis' character, but it is the solving of the crime that really drives this rollercoaster ride. There is also an unexpectedly satisfying conclusion. Bruce Willis has a knack for picking fan-pleasing movies and "Surrogates" is no exception. He must have a sixth sense about this.
