OLD DOGS

John Travolta and Robin WilliamsBest friends Charlie (John Travolta) and Dan (Robin Williams) must care for 7-year-old twins that surprisingly belong to one of them in this comedy from director Walt Becker.

TRIVIA: Walt Becker also directed John Travolta in what 2007 film?

ROG'S VIEWPOINT

The lives of best friends / business partners Dan (Robin Williams) and Charlie (John Travolta) get complicated when children enter the picture. Dan is given a temporary responsibility of caring for 7-year-old twins Zach (Conner Rayburn) and Emily (Ella Bleu Travolta) - the result of a fling with their mother Vicki (Kelly Preston). Pressures mount as the bonding time interferes with business meetings and friendships. "Old Dogs" is a mildly pleasant family film with a terrific cast. A couple of fine comedic performances out of John Travolta and Robin Williams ignite some memorable moments. Mr. Williams is following up 2009's "World's Greatest Dad" by trying to play the world's greatest dad - how odd. Supporting players include Rita Wilson, Lori Loughlin, Ann-Margret, Matt Dillon and the late Bernie Mac in a brief, but humorous final appearance. Seth Green is at his annoying best as an employee of the partners' firm. He's the perfect stooge: a target for most of director Walt Becker's ("Van Wilder") numerous slapstick-style pratfalls. Kids will find more to be amused at than adults. Anyone who likes the trailer will love the movie. The sometimes shaggy "Old Dogs" has a familiar plot with no new tricks.
