As Lord Voldemort's Death Eaters increase their evil activities, Professor Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) coaxes Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) back to Hogwarts where deadly secrets need to be uncovered and romance is in the air. Harry must also deal with being "the Chosen One", the new potions teacher Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent) and Draco Malfoy's (Tom Felton) mysterious mission. "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince" is one of the best and darkest entries in the series. Outstanding performances and magnificent special effects highlight director David Yates' stunning rendition of J.K. Rowling's book. Once again, Alan Rickman is superb as Severus Snape. Jim Broadbent's delightful interpretation of Professor Slughorn is a welcomed addition. Rupert Grint and Emma Watson get to more fully develop the characters of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger as their budding romance takes a surprising twist. Bonnie Wright brings a radiant depth to the role of Ginny Weasley, who becomes Harry's love interest. Not even a second of the 153 min. length is wasted. The identity of the Half-Blood Prince, whose book of potions helps Harry excel in class, is revealed and another character is lost. The game of Quidditch makes a triumphant return. Steve Kloves' brilliant screenplay is also aided by Bruno Delbonnel's striking cinematography and Nicholas Hooper's haunting score. With an ending that leaves you wanting more, the charmed "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince" is a crowning achievement.
